Visiting the Medical Visualization Department at the University of Glasgow was, in one word — inspiring.

As someone new to the field of medvis, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. But from the moment I stepped into the department, I knew I was in the right place. The space was modern, well-equipped, and buzzing with creative energy.

A Warm Welcome

One of the most heartening aspects of my visit was meeting the instructors. They were motivating, approachable, and truly passionate about what they do. I went in with concerns — I don’t come from a very high-tech or medical background, and I worried whether I’d be able to keep up. But every worry quickly melted away after speaking with them. They were incredibly reassuring and seemed genuinely invested in helping students grow, regardless of where they start from.

Tech That Blew My Mind

During the visit, I had the chance to check out some VR and AR-based projects developed by current students — and honestly, they were mind-blowing. Seeing anatomy come alive in immersive environments gave me hope and excitement for what’s possible in this field. It reminded me just how powerful the blend of technology and creativity can be when applied to medicine.

Students & the Studio Vibe

I also met some students working on their thesis projects, and they were so friendly and passionate about their work. You could tell that the program fosters not just technical learning, but a true sense of community and curiosity.

Oh — and I can’t not mention this — there was a cute little dog casually roaming the department! 🐶
I mean, how amazing is that? Emotional support AND a studio mascot. Truly a highlight.

A Little Surprise

Another surprise that made the visit even more special: I found out that my cousin and I were among the first Pakistanis to ever visit this department! That little detail made me feel proud and even more determined to be part of this space in the future.

No Photos, But Endless Memories

Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate — and then, I just got too absorbed in the experience to even think about it. Looking back, I don’t regret it. Some experiences are just meant to be fully lived, and this was one of them.

Final Thoughts

This visit made something click for me. It confirmed that medical visualization is the perfect blend of art, science, and storytelling — and that it’s a field full of kindness, innovation, and collaboration.

More than anything, it left me feeling motivated, excited, and deeply hopeful. I truly wish to be a part of this department in the future.

Here’s to chasing dreams, discovering passions, and embracing new paths — even the unexpected ones. ✨
